VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With dry weather continuing in the Wabash Valley, the Vigo County Commissioners have decided to implement burn bans in the county.
According to Vigo County Commissioner, Chris Switzer, the burn bans in Vigo County will be implemented for the next seven days, Oct. 15 through Oct. 22. Commissioners will then revisit the ban on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Vigo County now joins a list of 22 counties across the state of Indiana that has activated burn bans.
That list includes:

- Sullivan
- Clay
- Parke
- Vermillion
- Fountain
- Warren
- Benton
- Newton
- Jasper
- White
- Pulaski
- Starke
- LaPorte
- Marshall
- Fulton
- Cass
- Miami
- Howard
- Grant
- Hancock
Open burning is generally prohibited in Illinois unless there is a statutory exemption provided in the Environmental Protection Act or there is an exemption provided in the Illinois Pollution Control Board’s Part 237 rules.
