CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — After a pedestrian was struck and killed along Interstate-70 on Christmas day in Clay County, investigating state troopers are asking for the public’s help.
The death occurred around 8:15 p.m. on December 25, 2023 near Mile Marker 22 on I-70 westbound. 33-year-old Fredy Ramos Escobar of Kansas City, Kansas was identified as the person struck and killed in the incident.
Police have said the driver that struck Escobar immediately pulled over and called 911 and has been cooperative with police during the investigation.
Now, police are seeking information regarding three people seen with Escobar at a gas station near the S.R. 59 exit of I-70.
“The investigation indicates that the victim had stopped at a fueling station located on State Road 59 near Interstate 70. The victim is seen inside of the fueling station with two other males. The victim then gets into a red passenger vehicle with the two males and a female, leaving the fueling station. Approximately 20 minutes later the victim is observed walking on Interstate 70 and was struck by a passenger vehicle,” Sgt. Matt Ames said.
