INDIANA (WTWO/WAWV) — It’s that time of year again, the time when dreaded stink bugs come crawling back into houses and start becoming a nuisance.
According to Purdue Extension Spokesperson Tabby Flinn, there are actually several different types of stink bugs making a home in Indiana right now. The biggest culprit: an invasive species originally from Asia called the “brown marmorated stink bug”.
Flinn said that these bugs go into homes because they want to find a warm place to stay for the winter, but that there are multiple options for how to deal with them.
“There are a lot of different home defense pesticides that you can apply yourself,” Flinn said. “You can call a pest control company and they can treat your whole wall if that is something you’re concerned about.”
She also added that the bugs are often spotted on the south and west facing sides of a house after they come in through open cracks and crevices on the outside.
“If you have cracks that you can fill, the best option there is to fill those cracks,” Flinn added.
According to Flinn, the bugs do not bite and they will not breed inside your home.
