Sep 22 (Field Level Media) – For the third consecutive Presidents Cup, all participants will be paid $250,000 each, taking the total compensation for competitors over the $25 million mark, Front Office Sports reported Tuesday.
The PGA Tour, which operates the event, started paying players, captains and assistant captains the same amount going back to the 2022 event. Participants were not compensated in the previous 13 events going back to the Presidents Cup debut in 1994.
Unlike the Ryder Cup, which pits top players from the United States and Europe, the Presidents Cup is contested among top U.S. players and top players from around the world outside of Europe.
This year’s Presidents Cup, which begins Thursday and concludes Sunday, will be played at Medinah Country Club just outside of Chicago.
The PGA of America started playing U.S. Ryder Cup participants for the first time last year, providing $200,000 to each. The European Tour Group did not compensate its players for Ryder Cup play.
The organizers of both the Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup also donate millions to charities each time the events are played.
