TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A man was arrested after police say he drove a motorcycle recklessly in Terre Haute Tuesday night.
According to a Facebook post from the Terre Haute Police Department, officers saw a male, driving a motorcycle near North 13th Street and Elm Street.
The post said the suspect, identified as 51-year-old John C. Hoover, was traveling between 30-50 miles MPH, disregarding stop signs and driving on the Heritage Bike Trail rather than the road.
Officers attempted to pull him over, but Hoover took off on the bike trail through a wooded area.
With the help of assisting officers, including a THPD K-9, the motorcycle was eventually located in the 2100 block of Locust Street. Officers determined the suspect may have been in a nearby residence.
According to the post, the homeowners were familiar with Hoover, but allowed police to search the residence. Police would find Hoover hiding in a second-floor closet, officers reportedly gave multiple commands for Hoover to exit and he refused.
Police utilized the K-9, Pelkes, to apprehend Hoover, who was hiding behind a false wall in the closet.
Hoover was arrested on charges of reckless driving, resisting law enforcement and operating a vehicle as a habitual traffic violator.
