On those days when it’s hot outside and you’re out in it long enough…..you start sweating.
Why do we sweat? Here’s the answer.
Our bodies like to stay around the temperature of 98-point-six degrees. When we spend time outside on hot days our body temperature starts rising and we start sweating. The sweat starts evaporating into the atmosphere. This draws heat out of our bodies through a process known as evaporative cooling.
When it’s hot and the dew points are high, the atmosphere is holding a lot of water vapor. When we have these conditions our sweat can’t evaporate because the atmosphere can’t hold any more water. The sweat stays on our skin and we feel hot and sticky. EW!
When you’re outside on hot days it’s important to stay hydrated. Take breaks and if you or someone you know is experiencing sighs of heat stroke, call 9-1-1.
