TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Catholic Charities has put the call out for volunteers as the organization looks to meet the increasing need of food and resources.
“We are a warehouse and distribution facility working with 80 plus other non-profits that distribute emergency food assistance across the seven county service area,” stated Catholic Charities Assistant Agency Director, Jennifer Buell. “We are at this point in time looking at reopening our soup kitchen and that will be effective on Monday, Oct. 5.”
COVID-19 has made life difficult in many ways but especially for those in need. According to Indiana’s Family and Social Services Administration, Indiana’s Charitable Food Distribution Network is currently experiencing a 50 percent increase in visits from residents needing access to food.
“We think of the blessings that we ourselves are receiving and then we want to give back to others and that’s a natural thing to do,” explained Buell. “We’re a non-profit. We want to make sure that the donations that we received, that we steward those as best as we can.”
