SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Sullivan County Salvation Army is preparing for its Coats for Kids distribution day.
Over 300 local children are scheduled to attend the event and receive a winter coat. Some of the coats are purchased by the Salvation Army, but most are donated by community members.
Sullivan County Salvation Army Advisory Council Chairman Michele Smith says this year will put the organization at over 1500 coats from the six years of its Coats for Kids events.
“That’s a big number, especially for a small group like us, and especially for a small community like ours, that a lot of times struggles with unemployment and high poverty rates, the fact that the community gets on board and supports this, it just makes me very happy,” said Smith.
Each of the coats collected for Coats for Kids are new.
