CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An Illinois man was hospitalized with severe head injuries following a Clay County, Indiana motorcycle accident Friday, according to Indiana State Police.
A preliminary crash investigation revealed Brian S. Parks, 54, of Sparta, Illinois, was driving a motorcycle eastbound on Interstate 70 near the 23 mile marker around noon Friday.
For an unknown reason, Sparks drove off the north side of the interstate into a grassy median. As he attempted to drive back onto the interstate, he lost control of the motorcycle causing it and himself to roll several times.
Parks was not wearing a helmet and was flown by helicopter to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with serious head injuries.
“The Indiana State Police wants to remind everyone to wear a helmet at all times while operating or riding a motorcycle,” said Sgt. Matt Ames, ISP Public Information Officer. “Studies have shown that wearing a helmet can reduce your risk of serious head injury and/or death during an accident.”
